Ted Behne makes historically accurate, museum-quality models of 19th and 20th century Native American birchbark canoes. Ted’s replicas are made with the same materials and methods as full-size canoes but are just one-quarter the size. For example, a model of a typical 16-foot canoe would be four feet long. Ted’s models are so accurate in proportion, scale and detail that when photographed against a neutral background with no size references, they are difficult to distinguish from full-size canoes. His models replicate the entire range of tribal styles and variations that once were so abundant in Canada and the northern United States.
